I know that New Balance shoes are made in the U.S, but I think they are just assembled in the U.S. with components from Asia somewhere. Good luck finding a place that makes shoes or clothing outside of a sweat shop, I don't think you'll find any unless you have an ungodly amount of money to spend.

We cannot control what happens in all other areas of the world, and it isn't necessarily a good idea when we interfere with another countries traditions and cultures. Sometimes when we "rescue" people from bad situations we just make their situations worse. As Americans, we have self righteously marched in to some areas, and closed down all the sweat shops and places that use child labor. Then the people who used to work in these places starve, because they have no money for food. Different countries and societies have different rules and standards of living that we do. We cant always judge the living conditions in another place by comparing them to our own. The concept of "having a childhood" is relatively new, and still doesnt exist in many places on Earth. A child can only have a childhood similar to the ones that our children have if they live in a society that supports it like our does. If you live in a country where everyone must work or starve, then having a childhood is out of the question. Many people in these countries dream of being able to have a job in a factory, no matter how little they get paid. It can be a godsend for them and their families. It can represent the only time in the history of their family that there was food and shelter on a regular basis. Face it, there are billions of children on this planet, and some will grow up hugging teddy bears, and some will grow up working 14 hours a day.

Well, leave out Nike, Reebok, Skechers, and pretty much every other big name, as well as all cheap in-store brands. Really, you should search the net. But this company, www.zappos.com, sounds allright to me. They should at least be able to get you a pair of non-sweatshop shoes.

Check this link. It might be of help to you.

Good luck and kudos to you for caring enough to ask where to find these things! :)

(New Balance had some problems with workers in China but I think that's since been resolved. You might want to look into that.)

Find products that say made in the USA (and you may be supporting the low paid immigrant worker in your own country) or purchase made in Canada products to support those who make more than 7.25/hr for a 40 hour work week.
