What is the best way to clean the insole of sandals?

I have stains on the inside of my sandals and wonder if anybody has an idea on how to clean them up.

Old toothbrush and some dish soap

first try soap and water, unless the material would be damaged by it.

If they ain't leather, toss 'em in the washing machine, if they are leather, well......
