Wow, there really is a twisted view on what's going on this WC. These refs have enforced the rules properly, which is their job. I am a ref and have watched these games, theres no problem with these guys. When the players act and play badley they are suppossed to be punished by the refs. Just because you disagree with the call (when you don't even know the rules) doesn't make it a bad call.
Every single card (with the exception of some of the Russian guy's) has been well deserved. It states very clearly in the rule book what the offences for red and yellow cards are. But calling the cards and fouls is the easy part of being a ref. I am one and its the easy part when I ref.
The play of these players has gotten more despicable the further on we have gotten in this WC. Just because players have horrible sportsmanship doesn't mean the rules have to be changed to follow that. There is some truly despicable things going on unnoticed this WC.
And like said above: some "misteakes make a team go home," no they don't, only if the way the team tried to win was not in occurdence with the rules. If you break the rules and get penalized by the ref because of it and then lose and go home its not the refs problem, follow the goddamn rules, they're there for a reason.

Whilst the behaviour of some players is disgusting, some of the refereeing decisions have been shocking.
The latest example was the referee of the Brazil & Ghana match where at least two of the goals were offside.
Another example was the last minute penalty to Italy against Australia.
It is becoming increasingly suspicious and worrying that some of the "bigger" names in the game are being "assisted" like this.
Also a referee smiling as he gives a player a red card is totally unacceptable as the referee did in one recent match.
O.K. yes I agree to ban all cheats and spoilers from the playing side but the referee and assistants must really pay attention to what is going on.

Actually FIFA said the refs got it "about right" so far; except for a couple of games which FIFA acted on resulting in the dismissal of 2 refs: the card-crazy Russian and the absent-minded Englishman. The players however are as much to blame for 'killing' the spirit of the game. More trickery now.

FIFA also has a motto, "Fair play". They blame the refs because they hope to twist people's mind to think that soccer is a beautiful game and therefore, there should be no violence. True, the players were acting violently especially when Figo headbutted Mark Van Bommel. This game between Portugal and Netherlands really show violence by the players. The reason really is simple, "blame the refs to COVER UP soccer violence"
Duh... as if the soccer players are more behaved...

Referees do make bad calls. AUS v ITA. The only reason why Italy go the penalty kick was because they faked a foul and pretended like the player tripped when in fact you could tell he could step right over him. It would have been a tie. Thats why they blame the refs. No one is truly impartial.

Well maybe because the referees are having their share as well, they have less excuses now, as they can communicate better, apart from the fact that the referee in italy- australia was bribed.
