I keep mine out all winter and haven't lost one yet I live in Southern Ontario where we have some wicked cold winter days, they just huddle together to keep warm and when the spring comes they stretch their little wings and give me a ton of chicks.
Just to be on the safe side though, why don't you harvest one or two chicks from each plant and leave them in over the winter.

Hens and Chicks will pretty much grow anywhere, I have some in a big pot with holes down the sides and I leave them out all year round. They kinda dry out a bit in the winter and always come back in the spring. Maybe I am just lucky. But I know that they are very easy to care for. If you feel your winters are too cold then bring them inside for the winter. If your summer is too hot then just be sure to give them shade for part of the day.

I would bring the whole pot indoors and treat it as a house plant in winter. Hens & chicks are succulents and rest during the winter so it will not need much water and less light. I live in zone 5a, and I have had them over-winter when planted in my garden, but they don't tend to live longer than a season or two outside. I would not leave the pot outside. You could also take some of the babies and try to root them indoors.

I live in Northeastern Ohio, and many of my friends and neighbors have hens and chickens as well. I would be more concerned about freeze and thaw patterns ruining your container. The hens and chickens are tough, noone I know does anything with them. The Ohio cold has yet to kill any of them. Hope this helps.

I have a large whiskey barrel full of hen and chicks in northern Illinois. They have been left outside year around for the last ten years and are flourishing. Some of the old "hens" die off each year after going to seed and new "chicks" appear each spring.

what part of the country are you in?
In the south we just leave them outside. They do fine. I imagine up north you would need to put them in the basement or a back porch.

They are hard to kill, but if you live in the northern states put them inside or in the basement. Anywhere it's a little warmer.
