Thanks for the posting. My Dad always says I'm to loud. I'm going to London soon and I don't want to be seen as a rude, Loud American! I'm really excited to go. I hope that people are nice over the pond!

Americans who talk loud when in Europe either either don't know or don't care that they do. Americans who don't talk loud when in Europe avoid the ones who do.

I think you might be overgeneralizing. Or at least being a little one-sided and closed minded. Is it really just Americans who are talking loudly. Are there no Austrailian, Canadian, European or Spanish people who talk loudly. I simply don't think it is fair to judge an entire population of a few isolated experiences without viewing the situation in context.
However, if you are correct. I sincerely apologize and suggest that you take it as a compliment that they are so excited to be in your wonderful country.

I noticed that too. They used to wear camera straps around their necks, clutch a local map, and speak to everyone in English especially when in France. It's just a part of the American culture to be boisterous. It's like a part of the Englsh culture to be polite to everyone.

I don't think so, most of the time i think it is excitement, one time when i was waiting for a train in kings cross, two americans shouted ITS GREAT TO BE IN LONDON. i smiled at them, they were please. I think it is just exicement, but some people think different.
Take care

I think they do that when they encounter people who don't understand English. By speaking louder, maybe they think it will sink in deeper.....?
(Good luck trying to explain the Metric System to them.)

We notice, it's just that when you are in such an awesome place, it's difficult to retain the excitement. It's like, WOW!!! LOOK, OMG, IT'S THE EIFFEL TOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah...lol.
