I was allowed to shave my legs right before 7th grade and get my ears pierced at age 13. My sister has been bothered about her legs and my mom decided that she could, if she would agree to get her ears pierced when she was 14. Now, my mom also said this. When my sis got her period, she could get her ears pierced. It was offered to me too, but my birthday came before it. Is it fair? Should I ask my mom if I will get rewarded too? I tried talking to her, but that did not work. Help!

When you get your period, it means you are slowly turning into a woman and your mom rewards this. However, tell your mom you think this is unfair because your sister and she had a deal about when she was going to get her ears pierced, at fourteen. If she's not fourteen yet it means she broke the deal. But if this deal was offered to you it's fair. Yes, it's annoying to be the older sibling. I'm one too, and my bedtime in 4th grade was 8:00 (no joke!) My brother's bedtime in 2nd grade was 8:30. So my parents were softer with him. But just remember - you'll move out first!

Each child is different with differing personalities and traits. My suggestion is if you are looking for fair, there is no such thing, not even in the U.S. Supreme Court. If you want empowerment, do something that benefits society. Good grades is only the beginning. Help raise money for the Red Cross, work at a soup kitchen, put together packets of small gifts that benefit our soldiers and sailors serving over seas. Worrying and complaining about which things you versus your sister get is what children do.

I'm not sure what you think you need to be rewarded for.

Your legs are shaved, your ears are pierced, right? Then let it go and don't begrudge your sister what she's going to get or nag at your mother about it.

It sounds like you already got a good deal; you got to do those things at an earlier age than your sister. Just let it go.

What?

Who cares...you'll forget all about it in a year when you get your learners permit to drive. Don't be so jealous.
