I've gone to Fast Food Restaurants a lot over the years and I am finally just perplexed. Every time it rains (sometimes hard) I pull up in the drive through window and get soaked. And, half the time I get someone who says, "please wait a minute", while I have my window down in the rain.

Now, I know there must be some kind of logic behind the reason but wouldn't it just make sense to put a roof over the intercom area so people don't get wet when they are trying to order food.

It's probably a pretty low cost option if it could improve sales. I am sure someone could design a solution that would be durable, cost effective and meet the height requirements of any vehicle (the payment window often has a cover)..

It costs more money to do that (cuts into profits) and many areas do not get a rain for a significant number of days of the year to warrant it.

Cost factor,
A lot of people use drive thru's and if you ever notice, there are markings where a lot at one time actualy had a cover, reason being that they usuall fall off due to getting ripped off by the (heavy) winds, or some one who just can't read the saign that say's Clearence 8Ft. The old canapy style is basically out of date and style but theynever did liast as designed.

Mc D's" in my area (Bristol, TN) now have covers over the double drive thru's menu board but not the windows, when asked why.....they told me"I don't know".

I've been wondering the same thing, while waiting for the person to ask for your order while it's raining, so you're caught between rolling your window up, but risk not hearing the person when they want your order...or waiting with the window down as you and the inside of your vehicle gets wet...stupid fast food

Great question. I'd complain to whatever fast food place you're referring to. There is no logic to it. Some places haven't thought of this and others are just too cheap to do anything about the problem.

hmm... spend moeney on an item you know people will still come back for more or know that they'll come back regardless if you have a silly cover for when it rains out. they don't care about you, girl. seriously, do you know what you're buying from them to begin with... that stuff is harmful to you and they're taking your money and making you get wet! STOP BUYING FAST FOOD!
