1984

1987 would probably be the last time they have played this well. Their record in 1987 was 98-64. They lost to Minnesota, 4-1, in the American League Championship Series. This was the same year the Tigers completed their infamous trade of John Smoltz to the Braves for Doyle Alexander. After 1987, the Tigers had good years in 1988 & 1991, finishing 84-78 both times. Also, in 1993, the Tigers finished 85-77.

You have to go back to 1984 when The Tigers were this good.

At the 78th game they were 55-23...2 games better than they are now.

They are currently on pace to win 110 games...which would be a club record (set in 1984 with 104)
