Why do you think it is harmful? It might be inappropriate for some age, but not harmful.

A simple answer to this question is:

There is no-one regulating the Internet: or what is put on it!!

Be it Porn: Racial Bigotry: Homophobia: Religious Extremist: etc: Right down to the Tweenys,Tellitubbies, and good old Andy Pandy... If it can be formatted and uploaded, it can be seen on the Internet!!

Until such time as someone, somewhere designs a program and a regulatory body, to govern the content and exposure of what goes on the Internet... which to this reader, and many others like me would be, just for the finances involved alone: without going into the realms of 'Free Speech & Expression'!!... Impossible!! The only edit button we have to protect our kids from what content they can & can't veiw is... the 'Parental Guidance' settings on our own computers, set up with a really good password!!

However, this does not protect them from veiwing, shall we say: 'Unsavoury Items' elsewhere, such as friends, liberaries, school... or these days..on there own mobile phones!!

All we can do as parents is keep an eye on what they veiw or listen to: & to teach our children: right from wrong: good from evil: moral & imoral: decent & indecent: repect for themselves & others: etc, etc,etc to the standards we have been tought ourselves: and hope they will follow suit: Because it is not just the 'Internet' where they can learn or see the things you would not want them to learn, see, or hear these days: Its everywhere... Even the evening NEWS!! We can't protect them from everything: as much as we may wish we could!!

God bless.

The internet is a free and open media. Sites are only shut down if they break the law. That said, although I'm not against pornography existing, I am concerned about it being such a large part of the internet.

well they originate from places that have no laws against pornography, and the internet is free to access from anywhere, you amy be breaking some laws of your country when you acess these sites, but they can't be banned as they are legal in their originating country. There are many far worse sites that advocate racial viloence, hatred etc, and these are also allowed as many countries ahve a constitution that enshrines the right of Free Speech.

No only free speech, but also before the "Internet" caught on with the mainstream pornography was not a problem.

Because the internet is not under control from the govornment. They can set guidlines for some things that's it. It was actually Al Gore who sent the proposal through legislature.

Did he create the internet... hell no he only made it free from Gov control.

Because men are in charge. It is not harmful if you are old enough to enjoy it and it is partner acceptable. In fact, it can be helpful to some people and relationships. Too bad there isn't more geared toward women though. I don't do it myself, but I can see the usefullness. Let's put more tax on it.

Because there are so many STUPID people out there who have no clue as to what porn WILL do to there kids or themselves! Hell, look at these other answers! Most don't have a problem with porn.....which include beastiality, child, rape, just about any perverted thought has now been acted upon thanks to pornographers on the internet...through the disguise of "free speech"

Because we live in a free world (well most of us do) and if you don't like it don't go there. And why do you think pornography is all a bad thing, very narrow minded of you.

I use the net all day every day and I have yet to come across a porn site. The only way you come across those is if you purposely look it up. If you don't like it don't look at it. That being said, I myself don't look at porn but what other people look at is there own business and nobody has any right to tell them they can't look at porn if they enjoy it.
