It relates to the unusual french speciality Grenouille [frog]. As some English people refer to the french as 'frogs', some French people refer to the English as 'Roste beuf': roast beef! Not so: It relates to the banner of Emperor Charlemagne which depicted three toads on it. English and Welsh soldiers mistakenly thought they were frogs, the name stuck Really ? I don't know of a Charlemagne banner depicting frogs ! Also I am curious to know where he came across English or Welsh soldiers... Charlemagne was a Frankish ruler and the first Holy Roman Emperor from AD 800 - 814, well before the introduction of heraldry. In later periods, a coat of arms attributed to Charlemagne shows half of the body of a single-head black eagle as the symbol of the German emperors next to a fleur-de-lis as the symbol of the kings of France on an impaled shield." There wasn't ever a mention of toads or any frog. in any case never did he carry or was accompanied by such a standard , banner or pennon. An intersting point is that nickname was invented during or after the first world war and that there his no earlier mention of it. One explanation is that the coat of French officers was closed using not ordinary buttons but little pieces of wood attached to a ribbon and called "frogs". That made men recognizable among others and could have awarded them the name. Hope i helped:)

It is because they eat frog legs. Frogs' legs are one of the better-known delicacies of French cuisine. Although perceived as exotic in most parts of the world, frog legs are described as tasting like chicken.Although this dish is in the English-speaking world traditionally associated with French cuisine, and a favorite English derogatory nickname for the French is the Frogs. Despite this cliché, frog legs are actually a rare dish in France and are much more common in French speaking parts of Louisiana, particularly the Cajun areas of New Orleans. They were introduced to New Orleans by Donat Pucheu.

Because frogs are stupid and can be boiled alive in a pan they can jump out of if they recognized the increase in heat. The French are stupid in the same way: witness the willingness of the French army to give up when the going gets tough.

Because they eat frog legs.
Plus to "frog" someone means to stand over them in authoritative arrogance (which the French are notorious for being).
