The Etruscans ruled most of Italy, including Rome, until they were overthrown by the Romans. They were said to be very promiscuous, but that's by Greek and Roman standards, since they didn't leave any written accounts of themselves. Based on their art, they appear to have been people who appreciated the arts and all forms of leisure. Men and women seem to have eaten together, and women were included in society functions (that's why the Greeks and Romans thought so little of them). They invented many things we now attribute to the Romans, such as arches and aquaducts.
