Be patient with yourself. I think it's great that you're learning how to swim and you should give yourself some slack about mastering it quickly.

Have you tried having someone teach you or coach you as you try to learn? Most places have some sort of recreation department class for adults learning how to swim. If your area doesn't, take a look around the place where you swim. If there's a lifeguard, ask the guard about a few lessons or ask the place operating the pool or beach. If that's not possible, maybe a member of your local high school's swim team could help you out.

Swimmng is excellent exercise and you can eat more if you find you're losing weight because of it. The benefits to your fitness go beyond the weight control that others may use swimming for. It's good for your heart and for toning your muscles all over your body.

Anyway, as I said, just practice, maybe with some coaching, and be patient. You'll get it, I'm sure.

(1) Keep going to the pool two or three times a week. You will build up rhythm. If you miss a few goes, it will take a little while to get back into it but you will.

(2) Don't expect instant results. Your stamina is low so you get out of breath quickly, and when out of breath it's hard to do a good stroke. Constantly repeating the same thing will slowly improve your stamina and you will gradually gain more control over your breathing. Your strokes will improve with that.

(3) Take lessons. You probably don't need many. There are lots of people doing rubbish breast-stroke where I swim - these habits get ingrained into your head and it's hard to change. So fix them early on. If lessons aren't an option, watch the moves of the good swimmers and copy those. Breast stroke is a good one to start with because you get more chances to breath.

(4) Buy a good pair of GOGGLES!! It is much easier to swim well with goggles.

(5) Don't worry about losing weight. If you are underweight you're more likely to gain a little weight than lose any. You will grow muscle, but it won't be the bodybuilder type with lots of brute strength but no stamina - it will be more versatile, less obvious and nicer to look at than that.

(6) Enjoy! Soon enough it will become a habit that you don't want to break.

(7) If the pool has a sauna, use that too. It's nice!

There are many different answers to this questions! One option is to take a swim lesson at you local rec center. They offer classes for children and adults! You move from level to level and get better each time! About the weight, once you learn how to swim well, make sure you eat BEFORE your workout if you want to maintain your weight. You matabilism is faster after you workout, meaning that if you eat afterwards, it will just basicallly be digested and the calories burned very quickly! So dont eat, and you wont have to worry about it!

You could get lesons from a parent so you will save money, but if that dosn't work you could always get a real leasson like from a lifeguard. Sometimes the people that most often can't swim become lifeguards in the future so good luck and I hope it works out for you!

Learn to control your breathing, back when i was learning to swim, this made the biigest jump for me, I did this in the sink, that way you can get the timing right without having to swim at the same time.

Take a swimming lesson at the local YMCA. You should always practice in a shallow pool too.

Ask someone to push you into the pool with some back up guys to help you out. You learn better in this way because everything falls in the right way.
