With extreme concentration of power in the executive and a truly puppet congress & judiciary?

Actually, we've moved away from empire. We used to have more foreign territories and be more aggressive supporting the Monroe Doctrine in the Americas, but we got rid of most of our territories and have taken a more hands-off approach to issues in the Americas.

Now, every important country has gone through various stages, including expansion and empire type stages. And there is no certainty that the US will not go through the same thing in the future. But we seek no empire - heck, most of us would like to dump Puerto Rico - and we've given sovereignty back to many of our one time possessions / territories, e.g. Philippines, Panama canal, etc.

There has been no concentration of power in the executive, considering the recent power grabs by the legislature / judiciary in oversee the President in exercising his powers, such as trying to limit his ability to conduct national security intelligence gathering by wiretap or phone records.

This kind of power jousting has been going on for 225 years, and isn't about to stop now. Actually, the judiciary has been the worst offender regarding usurping power most recently. And after Watergate, Congress had attacked the powers of the presidency.

At this time, the executive and legislature have regained a parity. I do not see the executive having gotten out of control in the least.

If anybody claims that today we have some kind of dictatorship, they are peddling nonsense, and have a shameful ignorance of US history.

Thats where we are heading!! Ceasar George

Look at history, man. The Romans began with a republic, just like we did. The freedom and prosperity that followed made them complacent, apathetic. They became fat and happy, and mistakenly figured that government was responsible. Since their government was such a Good Thing, it didn't need watching, so few paid it any attention. Those with a knack for politics took advantage of that to increase their power, and also their stash. Eventually the republic degraded into an empire, and suffered the fate of all empires. They go broke trying to keep control of every place they've conquered.

"We're heading down the same road. Only this time, it's happening faster. It took three, four centuries for Rome to decline and fall. We might do it in three or four decades. Hell, maybe three or four years. Or months! Who the hell knows?"

The US republic went out of existence long ago. The Empire now has an Emperor, a spineless, rubber-stamp Congress and Judiciary, and a bunch of witless sheep as citizens.

I am shaking my head in wonderment at this question. The voters elected this administration, and where was the screaming when we had a majority of liberals on the court? I guess its okay to bend the law to your liberal thinking VS interpret the law as to what it is. Why do people think they do not have a voice? If the president had supreme all encompassing power as you seem to believe, we wouldn't have to be subject to these silly questions. Those rights would be stripped away. Please step away from the computer, and get an education. Don't turn into a sheep, think for yourself. Your the one that sounds like the puppet.

Maybe. It depends upon the people of the Republic. First, we are a Republic, not a Democracy. Second, we need to repeal the 16 and 17 amendments. That will shut down most government power. Finally, people need to vote, not be lazy, but be vigilant.
