Has anyone genuinely been stranded on a deserted island and for how long?

I'm thinking of those clean, well fed folk on "Lost" who do not even feel the need to sleep in the empty beds in the bunker or use it's toilet facilities.

Yes, there have been people in history who have been stranded on deserted islands. A French man was stranded on the island of Mauritius for two years and went mad from only eating raw turtles. A Dutch seaman who was left alone on the island of Saint Helena as punishment fell into such despair that he disinterred the body of a buried comrade and set out to sea in the coffin. Another castaway, the Spaniard Pedro Serrano, was rescued after seven years of solitude.
