Left side to right side? If you mean from the inside lane of the track to the outside lane, that's exactly why. Lane one is always the lane that's closest to the infield.

If you mean as you're watching from the stands, that's not true. I've seen races run from "right to left". Also if you're sitting in the opposite stands.

all races are run counter clockwise and finish at the same place on the track. since the 100m is only a quarter lap this standard makes all 100m races take place on the home stretch. so if it appears to be run from left to right everytime, that is because you are always viewing it from the same side of the track.

Because they are run down the straightway in the same direction that the other races go and finish at the same finish line. That way they only need one set of timing equipment.

i guess it's where the seating is - as far as the pool it goes top to bottom. platforms being at the bottom
