I think Parents have become too afraid to spank their children. There is a big difference between a punishment and abuse. Because of this children as young as 5 and 6 are picking up some horific habits. foul language, violent behavior, acting out, talking back. and what is done about this. they are sent to their room where all their toys are, or given something called a time out which does really no good at all. Children are becoming progressively worse.

It is time to stop fearing capitol punishment we just need to clearly define where punishment crosses the line into abuse. As a child I got spanked for fighting, talking back, and lying. I had my mouth washed out for cursing.

As a result of this I am a non violent adult, I am an honest person, and I respect authority. And I really don't curse that much either. I am a better person because of the punishments I recieved, and at no time did I ever feel I was being abused. I was sat down and my punishments were explained to me before they happened.

Kids today get off easy for too much as a result they have little to no respect for anyone.

I weep for the future. But then again, Aristotle complained that the next generation was rude and uncivil to their elders, so I guess that opinion has been around for a while, and we haven't died off yet.

it worries me that todays generation of children will soon be in charge of the world, they are arrogant, ignorrant, they mostly have poor education, no respect - either for themselves or other people. I shudder to think what sort of mess they will make of the planet.

What about them? Depends on the age group your talking about. If your talking about teenagers, they need guidance and just need to be themselves and respectable. Kids under that, I don't really know. They're good I guess...

I have to say I agree 100% with LOVPAYNE above. He stated it as eloquently as it could be said. Our kids need more harsh and consistent discipline.
