OK so I'm looking to bulk up over summer, looking to put on about 7lbs in 3 months- is this feasible?

Also I am a keen long-distance runner which doesn't exactly help my efforts to put on weight...someone suggested that the two don't go togther and if I want to bulk up I should (temporarily) scrap the running, as the major aerobic exercise will mean I'm burning away everything I build up with the weight training- is this true?

Thanks!

To bulk out in such a short time you'll need to cut out your 'long-distance' running.
As I'm sure you're aware you can gain weight quite fast in this time, (and it usually hits the stomach) But to put on this amount in muscle, can take about 5-6 months.

Good luck in your attempts.

Running doesn't burn off muscles it burns fat so you should keep running. As for bulking up try going to the gym and do 2 hrs a day doing wieght training and concentrate on squats to build your leg muscles as your thema is the largest muscle in your body and bench presses to build the upper body. Enjoy, you should notice the changes after a couple of weeks but make sure you stick to 2 hrs a day!!

Doesn't the extra weight that you're trying to put on affect your running times? If you're in cross country or something that could be a problem. The best way to do it is figure out about how many calories you're burning and make sure to eat that many. Don't go over it though or you'll gain fat weight...

You need a high-protien diet. Red meat, beans etc...protien forms the building blocks of muscles, Carbs will give you energy. A balanced diet. You also need to incorporate Weight training into your fitness regime. Running is still good. Remember High weights:low repittitions.

Drop the running and do weights and muscle-building exercises. Also, try to figure out a high-carb diet. Baked potatoes, pasta, etc.

Try Complan (ask your pharmacist) to help you add a few pounds.
