I used to have the problem. Some critical things (make sure you dont have any health afflictions preventing these):
Cut out caffeine after lunch.
Eat dinner earlier - around 5, no later than 6.
No snacks, food, or beverages with any notable amount of sugar or fat after dinner.
Go into wind down after dinner - nominal activity.
Make sure you exercise during the day before dinner.
No napping.
Vitamins and good eating habits can help (sleeping disorders can be a result of poor diet)
Last effort - Shock your system - stay up straight until after dinner, then get a long night sleep. After your system gets shocked a few days, you can reset your sleep clock to whatever you want.

Set your alarm for 6 AM and after a few days of only sleeping for 2 hours your body will be tired earlier and you can get back to a normal sleep routine.

I'm having the same problem!!!! I don't want to take sleeping pills due the fact that I don't want to depend on them... I have been starting to fall asleep at 11pm... by this time I am already tired and I'll hopefully pass out...
Note: Do not take naps during the day, this will effect you more!!

welcome to the world of not sleeping well, i have not slept well in nearly 10 years, so now i am just used to it. I refuse to take any type of prescribed medication. But for you, that could be an option, you may have sleep apnea, may have to see a doctor.
