Yeah, I definitely would NOT stick my hand down the garbage disposal... maybe call a repairman at a local Home Depot or Lowes or something.

I have a fear of the garbage disposal, too. I'll only put my hand in there if nobody else is around.
Honestly, you should be fine. If it's a fork or something, you hand will be so far above where any action really takes place. Plus, the inside of the garbage disposal isn't like a blender. the "blades" are VERY lot against the drain down inside.
Good Luck! You'll be fine!

Sure, just make sure you don't turn it on. You can also remove the rubber boot (temporarily) to see the whole drain and then use a pair of pliers or other tool to keep your hand out of the disposal.

Only if you are tired of looking at that hand in one piece. just kidding, make sure the power cord is unplugged then reach away. No chance of losing any thing that way.

As long as you don't turn it on, you will be okay.
Some (most?) garbage disposals also have a plug you can unplug to be totally safe.
So long as you don't get your hand stuck and don't turn it on, you will have no problems.

Just turn it off and get the fork. Make sure nobody else is in the room and you are safe. I do it all of the time. You have to.

I had a plumber tell me that grease, egg shells, coffee grinds and pulp from juicers are the worst issues to place down the drains exceptionally in case you have an older residing house. i think of because of the fact they are heavy and/or do not dissolve and function a tendency to seize on the different obstructions interior the sewer pipes ie. roots, qtips, toddler wipes etc.
