I agree with others before me: Most people are right handed (see logistics from previous posts)... why are you asking this in the hockey area? And, I'll also add that if you swing your left leg over the horse you have a good chance of hitting it in the head--therefore in addition to being much more natural it's easier to swing the right leg over the back of the horse.

People usually mount and dismount from a horse or bicycle because the right leg is generally the more flexible leg to swing over the back or saddle. The left leg is more suitable for supporting our weight and pushing us up.

Try mounting from the other side some time. I think you'll find it quite awkward!

We get off a horse on the left side because horses were, and have been until recent centuries primarily used for carrying people wearing swords.

The bulk of the population is right handed, and you draw across your body -- that is, you wear your sword on the left, and draw it from left to right..

We mount on the left side to avoid tangling the sword with the horse.

No, I'm not making this up.

Adding this later to prove that I'm not, in fact making this up:

Really.

It's because of swords.

Well, in my guess i think its because a majority of us are right handed, thus our right side is the stronger side. *i think left handers get onto the horse from the right side o.0* But because our right side is stronger, we need that strength to swing our leg over to the other side. Our left leg would be too weak and uncoordinated to do such a thing if we were righties =)

Probably because most of us will use our "stronger" leg to pull ourselves over the horse. In my case, that would be the left side of the horse.

I think that this is the hockey section. Which hockey team does the horse play on?

Because the horse wants us to.

Their left eye is weaker and thus less chance of them getting upset.
