I have a good friend that is really into those reenactments. Where ever they are held( old war grounds) or some usually sleep their the night before in these old tents. Just stop and ask anyone I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you. That is a dying bunch of people that participate in these. The costumes they usually make, or you can purchase from one of the participants, They will sell their skill, unfortunately the costumes are not cheap. My friend makes the the black powder rifles by hand. They actually work. he uses them in competitions.
If you give me details where or what state you want to do this in live I can give it to Tom and he can get the information you need. He has a blast at them. His unit also has been in several movies that have filmed here in the mid west.( as extras) but they still received 300 a day for doing something they love.

Contact a local historical society for historical events that may be planned for your area. Search the internet for reenactment groups. I have been to several Renaissance, Civil War, Revolutionary War, and Mountain Men reenactments. The participants are passionate about their involvement, and travel hundreds of miles to participate. You have to be committed to this endeavor. The costumes required will depend upon the period you choose. Choose a period you are really passionate about, and give it all you have. There are many commercial establishments that would be happy to supply you with costumes; but, there are also many sources for patterns of period dress that you, or a seamstress, can make.

Search for re-enactment groups on the web, make contact with them and procede from there, I suggest you visit a few places that are actually holding some type of re-enactment before you invest money in the activity. Re-enactment can be fun but remember you want to be around people that you enjoy and also you are investing time and money to do this activity so make it pleasant for yourself by doing some research first.

Do a internet seek on snap shots of Confederate infantrymen to get you began. They wore grey, with crimson undergarments. Jackets had tons of brass buttons at the entrance, pants had large stripes down the edges. Consider too, that when you consider that the struggle attempt didnt cross good for them, that by way of the top of the struggle they had been a sexy "rag tag" bunch, and such a lot simply seemed dishelveled and overwhelmed. The South didnt have the approach to fill up their uniforms

There are many civil war re-enactment clubs and groups in America, many of them are in the south I'm sure they will be doing Gettysburg again over the 4th of July, if you can get over there you could observe what they do and talk to someone about joining. some of these people are dedicated to the point of obsession and some are in it for fun.
