My favorite movie of all time is Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" funny but moving. I practically know the movie by heart but it still makes me laugh and cry!

Toss up...between The Matrix and Hero. Now, it has a lot less to do with the martial arts than you might expect. I liked the Matrix because of the psychological metaphors (Neo, anagram for one and symbol for the higher self, Cypher, key to a code and a zero, binary opposite of Neo symbolizing the id, and Trinity, a group of three entities, symbolizing the ego which must constantly choose between the higher and lower self but which will eventually choose self-sacrifice and love over carnal desire (steak) and selfishness.) Hero did some amazing thing with color (red, color of passion and blood--nameless's lie, blue symbol for idealism--the king's theory, green a symbol for young love which comes
crashing down when Broken Sword chooses not to kill the King,
and finally white, reality untinted by lies or sentimentalism. Only in the white scene does the true tragedy strike...extremely well executed tragedy in the Arisitilean sense). Of the two, I think for its time, The Matrix combination of depth of meaning and totally rockin' special effects along with some pretty good acting (not including Keanu) make it the Shakespeare of today. Hero's acting was better and the images were amazing, but the special effects had been done to death by that point.

I absolutely love 'Moulin Rouge'- it just blew me away. First time since I was a child that I cried at a movie screening(very embarrassing). Don't know what it is about this film, I just LOVE it! The music, the story, the sets, Ewan McGregor.... brilliant!
