Sweat washes off with a cold shower. Gravel embedded in your skin from a slow crash requires a wire brush to remove it from your skin...
You tell me if you should wear your jacket ALWAYS. I sez not yes, but HELL YES!

Mesh is about as minimal as you should go. When you are in motion, the air movement should keep you reasonably comfortable. I wear a non-perforated leather jacket here in Savannah, where the mercury is frequently up near the triple digits.
I know it gets uncomfortable at traffic lights and in lowdowns, but the protection is essential, should you have an accident.
Skin grafts HURT! And the scarring from road rash is not pretty.

I only ride my Yamaha Jog moped/scooter on roads where the posted speed limit is 40 or below and just wear my oakleys,t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. If you are driving alot in heavy traffic, I would say wear what will make your more safe. I only ride my scooter for a few miles like to eat out,go to store and pick small things up and that sort of thing. I avoid "Rush Hour Traffic" while riding a moped. lol I don't wanna become "raod kill"!

You can't plan on when you're going to have an accident. The padding in your mesh jacket can be of great importance to your safety and security in case you go down while riding. It's best to wear all the gear, all the time!

Welcome to the world of scooting! I'm not sure what a mesh jacket is but I would say if there is not Texas law saying you HAVE to wear it, you could probably leave it home on the hot days. I wear a leather vest to protect against bug attacks.

Oh my. Please don't ever ride without your jacket! Take it from me - I was going to do that one REALLY hot day here in California and my boyfriend convinced me not to. An hour later I was skidding across the pavement, and boy was I happy to have that jacket on. I walked away with a deep gouge out of my left wrist (wasn't wearing gauntlet gloves, just regular summer gloves). Just looking at the scrapes on my leathers and helmet convinced me to never, ever ride without my gear on. Be safe!

Get a good mesh jacket and wear it all the time. I have a Cortech GX Air and it actually keeps me cool (and protected) in hot weather.

Sweating is uncomfortable, but road rash is even more uncomfortable, bikers can get BIG scabs if they end up on the pavement, scooters move slower so you won't get scraped as bad, but it's still 'better safe than sorry'...see if you can get a jacket with zippered air holes in it...look in the motorcycle magazines for summer bike duds...

I live in TX and usually wear a denim jacket, in the summer Particularly as a new rider, you want as much protection as you can get.
Keep moving :-)
