What is indigo? I thought it was a fabric coloring.?

We were in Madieira, Meditiranian and this was noted as a product there.

Indigo is:

1) A frequency of light;
2) A color in the optical spectrum;
3) A shrub or herb; and
4) A dye for fabric.

it is from tree..root i think.blue color..
