There are so many different ways to celebrate, it's hard to pick the best!

I have a few patriotic movies I watch, usually the day before, or the day after. On television, A & E usually airs the concert held by the Boston Pops orchestra, along with fireworks. This has worked well in the past during years I've had to deal with rain.

During the years when there's been beautiful weather, I like to see what community events are going on. Tacoma has a marvelous food festival. Other communities have art in the park sales, carnivals, you name it! We'll do this with friends, or if our friends are having a barbecue, we'll join them and bring potato salad (or a brisket that needs to be smoked), and make it a lot of fun.

In the evening, we find a good spot to watch city fireworks. I prefer these to the cheap home version. The colors and designs are far prettier, and the home version also comes with risk. Who really enjoys the fourth when they've severely burned their hands, fingers, etc.? These things are awful for children especially, because they don't understand the danger. Even worse, one wrong bottlerocket can burn down a house, or end up under your car's gas tank!

In addition to city fireworks, oftentimes if they have an orchestra, they'll have a concert, with the grand finale being the 1812 overture, complete with fireworks in all the right spots. There is nothing more moving than watching that!

For me, its having a BBQ and then setting off fireworks. The 4th of July is my Birthday, not too many people can legally blow up stuff on their birthday like me.

I've been doing the BBQ and Fireworks thing on Independence Day for at least 26 years (I dont remember too much from when I was younger than 5)

I did go camping one time on the 4th of July, it was awful- way too many people, no fireworks. I hated it.

Here were I live, in Hungry Horse Montana, they have a fireworks war every 4th of July- the town picks sides, the Tavern on one side the Gas station on the other, and people spend all night shooting fireworks across the highway at the other group. They have been doing this for longer than I have been alive, yet there has never been a death and very few injuries. Most people come prepared, wearing thick bulky clothes, gloves, hats and eye protection. I usually wear a paintball helmet over a bandana, driving gloves, and then jeans and a lumberjack shirt. Other people wear army helmets, riot gear, mining equipment and more. One guy wore a complete catcher's outfit. It's alot of fun, people come to the fireworks war from hundreds of miles away. I wouldnt miss it for the world.

July 4th in the US is Independence Day. We should celebrate the birth of our nation, and realize that we have the freedoms we enjoy only through others who take it upon themselves to ensure this Independence continues. Strangely enough, those who work the most toward Independence in history are often the least independent, because of a duty self-imposed.

Gob Bless our nation, and all people across the world who work toward peace, justice, and freedom for their fellow man.

Get together with ones you consider close or dear. Spend some time in the sun, maybe by the pool or lake. BBQ and even light some innocent fireworks as well as catching a spectacular fireworks show!

Every American citizen should pause during their holiday festivities and reflect on what it really means to be an American. Think of all the privileges and responsibilities we have. Now, more than ever, we need to personally decide if those privileges afforded us by the Constitution are important. If they are important, they what can we, the individuals of this country, do to protect them.

Not even considering the daily influx of illegal aliens, we must realize that our way of life is slowly erroding away. Special interest groups, politicians with hidden agendas, and foreign influence are all changing our government and ultimately the freedoms we cherish.

Be careful who you vote for...and more than ever...VOTE.

Spend the day at the lake with family, come home, have a steak dinner on the patio, and spend the evening watching your neighbors all set off fireworks while your kids play with sparklers and pop its.

Take a private plane ride during the fireworks and see everything a whole new way. It is the most amazing way to watch the display.

Sit in the yard with the ones you love, eat, swim, watch others blow off fireworks from a safe distance and thank God that we have the freedom to do it.
