Rubbish. England broke away from Rome simply so Henry could marry another woman. He wasn't concerned about countering "the power of the pope", but he gladly accepted property that came his way with the closure of Catholic churches and abbeys. England's monarchy started having their power diminished almost eight hundred years ago because of King John...400 years before there were any settlements in America!
I believe England's monarchy is more titular than power wielding in today's world. Maintaining the monarchy is a good move culturally and commercially for England. The monarchy brings in tourists as well as fulfilling a role as international ambassadors. England's monarchy is currently one of the oldest in the world. The interaction between the monarch and the PM is a symbiotic relationship that has been working for hundreds of years, although there have been hiccups along the way. If the power resides with the government and crown rests with the monarchy, what benefit is there to abolish it?? Leave the politics to the PMs and the Houses...that's why they were established. Long live Regina!

A Monarchy is an Effection of daily life for some and of history too all. If you asked a Monarchy this question on Monday, they would tell you the Monarchy is stronger than ever. However, should you ask them the same question on Friday they would probably tell you they are only a fixture in a politically charged society. I for one find them important to ALL society's as a picture of strength and wonder still in effect after soooo long. As an American, I would have to be greatly disappointed should they abolish any Monarchy because their political, and idealistic standing to the world is sooo important. Not only that but as a one time girl, how would one feel should your dreams of marrying a Prince be taken from you? lol

One reason, and the best to my understanding is when England broke away from the yoke of Rome and the church of England was established they needed someone with the divine power to counter the the power of the pope' so they established the divine power of kings, which gave the King of England and his family enormous power. This created issues which created the pilgrimage, Who had to leave safe port in Denmark which lead to their crossing to the New World and establishing several important writing 1. The Mayflower Compact, 2. The Bill of Rights, and 3. The Constitution of the United States. They all abolish and remove the Divine Right of Kings. And thus any possibility of a futureMonarchy. Thus I Agree.

To keep the Monarchy in the same way as to keep exotic animals in a zoo is simply a tremendous waste of money!! It is ridiculous, since in the practical since, the monarchy doesn't have power to lead its own nation! How pathetic!

I presume you mean in the UK?
I am far from being a Royalist, nonetheless, I support the maintenance of the monarchy. Otherwise, the UK would become a republic, trailing on the heels of the US version of what a republic represents - too much power in too few hands. And who would 'volunteer' to be the President of the UK? Certainly not Jack Smith who works in the butcher's counter in TESCO's, right? But, some sleazy ex-politico/rich businessman whose prime motivation is his own interests. Would you prefer that to a harmless fool like Prince Charles?
At least Her Maj was able to clip Thatcher's and Blair's ears from time to time and to stop them getting power crazy, but, without her, who would there be?

I support the British Monarchy whole heartedly and never want them to be abolished. They are great ambassadors for our country and also bring in alot of tourism as well as being figureheads for the nation.

Culture has great values, if the power of Monarch is not corruptive or destructive it increases the value of the power as like England Queen. If the power has absolutely corrupted the powers, it should be thrown by revolts.
