Emigration and immigration are both forms of migration. If you move out of a country, you have emigrated, and you are an emigrant.

If you move into a country, you have immigrated, and you are now an immigrant.

Either way, or even if you move within the same country, you have migrated, and you are a migrant.

So if I migrated from the US to China, I will have emigrated from the US to become an immigrant in China. Just remember that the "e-" prefix means out and the "im-" prefix means in.

Migration: Departure from one's native land to settle in another.

Emigration: The act of moving from one country to another with intention not to return. Emigration denotes merely the removal of person and property to another country. Emigration is also sometimes used in reference to the removal from one section to another of the same country.

Immigration: The entrance into a country of foreigners for purposes of permanent residence.

So you could say that Migration is the act of leaving, Emigration is the process of leaving and Immigration is the act of entering.
