Think about this one with an open mide folks, Is it wise to take a chance of having either a foul, yellow, or red card called against you for trying to slide tackle your opponent inside your goal area, knowing full well that it might back fire on you and give your opponent a chance at a penalty kick?

Slide tackling an opponent in your D zone is not a wise idea. It will cost you dearly if a penalty kick is awarded by the referee to your opponent. The recently concluded match between Italy v/s. Australia is the proof of it. Due to ref's errored decision, Australia had to pay the price and bow out of the tournament. According to me the team must not slide n tackle the opponents in the D area and let the play on, maybe the ball may eventually roll out of the lines or maybe a corner may be conceeded or it will be saved by the keeper. But giving a penalty for this offence is not a good idea.

Like I have answered you in the next question (I go backward :)), well said!
That is called obstruction!
When a player commit obstruction inside the penalty box, the opponent team is awarded with a penalty kick. Pure and simple. But only who knows a little about soccer can see that: all the other incompetents are just biased and have not idea of what they are talking about! They continue with this BS about "unfair and deserve" while if they really have watched the game, they could have noticed that who really deserved to win the game was Italy. In fact, even tough Australia had greater ball-possession (due to 5 midfielders versus 3 from Italy and due to the 2nd half with an extra-man - btw red card not legitimate) Italy hag greater chances of scoring goals.
Well, maybe we are wasting our time to talk to those incompetents...

It all depends on your chances of winning the ball, the confidence you have in your own ability and judgement, how many covering defenders there are, how many other players the attacking team could use, and now a days whether the player your attempting to tackle is going to take a dive and roll around on the floor for 5 minutes in an attempt to win a penalty and get you sent off! It's a really tricky one to generalize, all depends on the individual situation!

If someone is going to get a shot that will probably score, especially if the goalie is out of position, why not. If you get a penalty atleast your goalie has a very slight chance he may stop it or the shot taker could completly miss. In a normal scramble for the ball I would be hesitant.

Well, that's a difficult one. It all depends on the situation.
The one Lucas Neill (Australia) did when playing against Italy was probably not wise. Because there's so little time left and he had other options, I guess.

But I believe no defender would do it intentionally, they only want to get the ball away from there...

For my opinion is wiser that take his face to give away his chance of shooting on goal in opposition of sliding (must be stupid in that moment, no offense OK?), and hope hit me or miss miles away.

Getting the idea?

Not wise at all. Especially so late in the game. Any opponent would take advantage of that.
