It only costs $34 to feed a child lunch for an entire year - if everyone in the U.S. signed up for this amount, the starving in sub Saharan Africa would be over. Why don't we????

Being brought up & raised in Africa, i have seen at first hand the cause & and effect of Foreign aid. The biggest problem is that aid never or very seldome reaches those whi need it most, the monies given is embezeled & spirited away into private bank Accounts, i believe that no more cash should be given to Governments but People should form Associations that actually do the deeds as in building houses etc. Even Aids funds do not reach those it was ment for.

they are starving in Africa because they don't grow enough food to feed the population.
homeless men women and children in America are starving because all the do gooders feel more righteous sending $ 34 to another country to feed a stranger than the neighbor.
also the people there know some fool from the u.s. will feed them if they look pitiful enough for the camera man.who by the way should have brought enough food to at least feed the kids he put on film.

The reason children are suffering from hunger in Africa is due to corrupt African leaders. They steal the money and food from their countrymen and use for their own selfish needs. Between the UN and the USA, Africa has been given enough money to buy and plant all the food they need. Nothing will change until the leaders are changed.

I think informed people are fed up with Africa not taking care of its problem. Africa is the richest in natural resources continent - thus, the scramble for Africa. The African continent just needs to learn how to tap on, recycle and manage its resources, and stop looking at or for greener grass across the street. There's no excuse for the desperate conditions in Africa!

I believe that spiritually many countries have had a curse put on them that forces them to live in their circumstances (generational curses). Just as in America their are people who are starving and you wonder why with all the resources we have. I further believe that with prayer the curses can be lifted as more of them accept Christ as their savior. In the meantime they are subject to God's mercy. As is everyone experiencing any form of devastation. Why are their homeless people walking through public parks with million dollar statues and sculptures that our cities pay for with tax dollars? If your husband gave money to another family and allowed you to loose your home, how would you explain that to your children? They needed it more than us? This country has an awful way of dealing with the needs of others in it's own home. That to is a generational curse and we as a country will continue to suffer unless and until the church takes a stand and uses it's voice.

GREED!!

The short answer is that for somebody to live in luxury in this world somebody else needs to pay for it and currently the africans are paying for the luxuries of those living in Europe and North-America.

An even shorter answer: People are starving in Africa so that you can have your BigMac for the same price as last year.

Personally i believe that there is enough food in the world for all of us but some people in this world who is just plain too greedy.

I've never been there, but from what I've heard from people who have, the above answer from Kenneth is spot on. Unfortunately, like many things in this world, money and politics are the motivators. Witness the widespread hurricane Katrina fraud now being reported here in the U.S as well as the U.N. scandal. Greed, greed, greed....

ignorance, most leaders pockets money gotten from foreign aids while their citizens die in penury, war / conflict, natural disasters e.t.c.some countries here are richly endowed with natural and human resources but their governments won't initiate programmes that will help the citizens because of greed.
