I turned on the news radio just now as they were finishing a story about a possible Rangers vs. Islanders game to be held at Yankee Stadium in January, possibly on New Year's day. Can't seem to find any reference to the story on the web yet. Anyone heard this story?

Here, the radio station lets you vote on a story they will cover in greater detail in the evening. You can see the story about the game is one of the choices.

I heard about it, I would love to see that. they're talking it over now with the teams and with the yankees stadium people. If it does happen, i'm gonna have to try and get tickets to see my Rangers kick the islanders' butts =P

It sounds possible, but don't count on it being the Islanders and Rangers at Yankee Stadium. I have to agree with others that if the East coast gets a winter like last year it will be hard to put an outdoor rink in the Stadium, that would be like trying to play an outdoor game between Los Angeles and Anaheim or San Jose, it just would not work.

Chances are that if there was to be an outdoor game again I can see it being out West, possibly in Calgary and it would probably be betwen Calgary and Edmonton

They can still have ice even if it's a bit warmer. We have outdoor ice here in San Diego in the winter, it's just that in the afternoon, the top inch or so melts....and I'm sure that the Rangers and Islanders would be able to get a ice machine that would sustain any "warm" weather that might happen in Yankee Stadium...

I'd like to see them pull it off, if they can--along with that Montreal-Edmonton game a couple years ago, there was Michigan-Michigan State ( they sold out Spartan Stadium fot it ) , and U of Wisconsin is also looking into it. I'm a little surprised the Canadian teams don't do that more often--I realize the logistics has gotta be a real pain, but 4X your normal ticket sales.......

Sounds plausible-the outdoor game between Montreal and Edmonton a few years ago went over really well. I'm sure the NHL would like to take back the attendance record from the NCAA.

I heard this was a reasonable idea and the teams, NHL, and Yankee Stadium brass are pondering it.

I'd go. Sounds fun.

Who care the Rangers will win outdoors, indoors, or even on the moon. No Olympics = Rangers world champs.

I haven't heard anything about it. Sounds interesting, but risky. If we had a winter like last year, it probably wouldn't be cold enough to sustain an outdoor ice surface.
