It is difficult to say whether this policy is right or wrong: it has both positive and negative aspects. The one-child policy is a way to combat overpopulation and poverty. As such, I would say it is right.

On the other hand, it has some negative aspects too. For one, children without sibblings tend to be spoiled and traditional family values, like the care of the children for their parents, tend to disappear. Further, the Chinese preference for boys is causing some unwanted side effects too. Foetuses that will grow into girls are often aborted because there is no second chance.

Right and wrong are not absolute values. It all depends on your frame of reference. In China's case, I do not believe the economic boom would have been possible or at least that strong without this policy.

Thus, in my opinion, the balance tends to go in favour of 'Right'.

It has worked for them. I don't think they were looking for a right/wrong decision, I think they were trying to do something practical. It may have been barbaric but I'm sure Mao, Deng, and Mr Zedong were/are using different standards than leaders in the West.

Even though it may look right for some cases like food and shelter.... one family one child is not at all a good idea... Human have right to live and it should be allowed... After all if we have good human resourse that is good for nation`s economy and it should have good quality....

As China becomes more prosperous they will probably have fewer children without coercion. The more money people have, the fewer children they seem to have.
