If you want children to be honest with you later, you have to be honest with them forever. When children know that they are being lied to, they get the impression that lying isn't all bad. I am always honest with my children, but I wait for them to ask before I tell them anything. If there's something you don't want to tell children the truth, be honest with them - tell them you don't feel that this is the right time for that discussion and you'll talk with them when it is the right time. But if they're asking, it's probably the right time to talk about it. And your personal issues and problems aren't up for discussion. Use your better judgment.

The truth for children is that what they can understand.
If u do not want to say the truth than do not say anything.
There is a good saying I like and valid for all-age people. (Its originally said in Turkish, I do not know what it looks like in English)
" Everything you say is to be true, but do not tell every truth."

That's a tricky question, but I think yes, it is. How can you expect them to be honest with you if you can't be honest with them. I know some things might be easier if you just sugar coated it,but personally i think the only way to bring a child up is with honesty and love.

Children are not emotionally capable of handling adult problems, nor can that comprehend the whys of situations. Too many children nowadays are being treated as adults and their little psyches are getting all screwed up (perhaps that's why they're shooting up schools....? dunno). No, kids do not need to know everything. Filter the information and give them just what they need to know.
