Oh please!! Some women get jealous because some guy is paying more attention to a smut mag, but they wouldn't walk a mile of them tricks to lure his attention away from the smut mag.

People (not just women) can and do sometimes have the emotion of jealousy. I agree with the general consensus that it's due to insecurities, based either on self-esteem, or prior experiences.
Women tend to be more emotional, so maybe you see the manifestations of jealousy more often or more strongly in them. Jealousy is just an emotion, but it's the problem of the person feeling it, not the object of the emotion. How a person handles jealousy is much more telling then if they feel it or not.

I agree that we women are known for our jealousy but don't be blind to the fact that men are as well, they just tend to try to hide it. I think that we get jealous because we know that we have a good thing and the thought of losing it scares us. Not to mention the fact that society has made us feel as though we have to compete with eachother.

They feel insecure. Could be feeling that way for allot of reasons maybe they are not happy with the way they look like being overweight.They have been unfaithful and maybe they think they are going to get cheated on and are always looking out for that. They have been cheated on in the past and find it hard to trust a man again. I think it has allot to do with the person and whats going on with them.
