HOKOKU = report
RENRAKU = inform
SOUDAN = consult

Those are called "Hourensou" at work or in the work place, however in general Hourensou means "spinach" in Japanese language .

"Hourensou is a Japanese word made up of three parts: hou (houkoku -- to report), ren (renraku -- to give updates periodically) and sou (soudan -- to consult or advise).
To serve some of the genchi genbutsu functions , senior management uses hourensou, which is common within top Japanese companies. "

I m not sure where we can find a guide book written in English but it is very common concept at work in Japan and there are many web sites explain about it in Japanese language.
