Primarily due to the fact that we expect a lot from the other person. Even slight deviation from our expectation gives us a feeling of betrayal which may not be true, most of the time.

Ehh..it's really quite a tough question to answer you. Becoz it's the way life is. Life likes to play trick with people. Seems that you have been played. Anyway..I think that most of the time it's becoz of the fact that they dun live up to YOUR expectations. Dun be too sad.. I know it's quite harsh..if i am not wrong..your friends are very practical people. And i think that they dun really know what real friends means, they dun know what it take to be friends. Anyway..Dun be too sad. You will always have friends if you are a nice person. =)

Friends tend to envy what another has but not purposely. You have to watch them closer than enemies. If you ask an enemy for help they will do you more good by unintentionally being more loyal to you b/c they are trying to out do you a friend will slack off not caring if you succeed

it's just that maybe the feeling between you two is not mutual. you might have considered her/him as your best friend, but in the end, her/his affection towards you is lesser. so you end up telling her all about you...your strengths, weaknesses, flaws. in the end, she might use that against you. remember, a TRUE friend never betrays another, so before naming someone as your "bestfriend" better be sure first.

It's a difficult one. My experience was when one of my closest friends used my name to buy drugs on credit. Needless to say the dealers came knocking on my door asking me for money. I had no idea what they were talking about! It made me think do i REALLY know my closest friends? I confronted them & they said they were sorry they wont do it again. Lucky for me i moved without telling them.

Because they were never your friend to begin with; certainly NOT your so-called best friend. Chalk it up to a learning experience when you choose your friends. Let that be an example. Friends like that, who needs enemies.

Probably you have place too much expectation on them or that you did not communicate clearly to them what your expectation are.

it's hard for an enemy to betray you, you don't expect them to support you anyway.
