There is a program on most computers called "winipcfg" that you can run in order to restore your IP address. This comes in handy when you are having problems with a firewall blocking internet traffic.

Create a hidden partition, with a back-up of your hard drive!!! Do this on a fresh install, prior to any infections to the drive.
Phoenix Technologies, and the makers of Ghost have good programs, and they are quite user friendly.
