As far as the hiking boots thing goes, I want to know because I hate wearing shoes and if I need boots I have to get them now and get them worn in in plenty of time before I go. Never go anywhere in new shoes - I have made this mistake before.

I was in Uganda last year in July--and it did rain quite a bit. I got by with hiking boots and trainers. Of course a lot depends on where you're going and what kind of work you're doing.

I'd get high boots, in case of poisonous snakes.
