While I agree that astronauts are some of the bravest and smartest people in the galaxy, I think that there are many others equally as brave.
Soldiers, sailors, pilots...all brave.
Policemen, firemen, ambulance drivers....all brave.
But don't forget those dads..brave enough to kill the spiders and chase boogy men from under our beds. Brave enough to say no to the teenage daughter that wants to pierce her navel. Brave enough to give all his love and lust to just one woman, the mother of his kids. Brave enough to go to work each day at a job he doesn't like just so he can provide a safe living for his kids. Brave enough to help his 8th grader with math homework. Brave enough to enforce rules that will make his kids better people.
And moms...well, there isn't enough room to talk about the courage they express.
Yea-astronauts are brave. But it takes a lot of courage to be a good parent.

Astronauts are some of the best among us, to be sure, but they're no braver than a U.S. soldier in the middle of a vast and ancient necropolis, surrounded by enemies.

Not taking anything away from astronauts, but seriously: the men and women who voluntarily risk their lives to protect our way of life are way more brave than any astronaut will ever be.

Well yes they are brave but the reward is huge... they get to go into space! Experience micro-gravity, see the whole Earth all at once... it would be tremendous... a project worthy of the risk of sacrificing one's own life.... sadly, it would be a MUCH more noble death than the typical soldier dying on a battlefield somewhere.

MY GRANDSON - he has quad cerebral palsy & has been in a wheelchair all his life; he can't hold a pencil or turn the pages of a book, or even scratch his ear, but he has mastered the computer with 1 finger, feeds himself with special silverware and NEVER EVER complains; he jokes with everyone, has the most compassion and guts I've ever seen -- his motto: (1st)"I thank God every day because I know He watches over me and will make me perfect one day; and(2)"Nothing to it, but to do it!!!" he has had many surgeries and spent the 1st 3 months of his life in the hospital - 3 years ago, they built him a 'new' spine, but he is now in his 1st year of college; he loves sports, especially wrestling, (he says he can feel himself in whatever game is on) & knows all the stats of every pro & college team - it's going to take some extra time to finish college, but he says he wants to be a teacher & help kids like him - I told him he has been a teacher all his life - he is the angel of my heart & MY HERO !!!!!

I think soldiers in Iraq are braver, because they go out on patrol each day knowing that each time they do, they could be potential targets of roadside bombs, yet they keep going out anyway.
