Deeply isolationist North Korea is certainly a threat to its neighbor, South Korea, and Japan, and less so to the U.S. As repressive and offensive as its system is to us in the West, it is not a known exporter of terrorism.

Consequently, if they do have nuclear weapons, they would have to be delivered onto the territory of an adversary via missile or bombing plane. U.S. and Western European nations have sophisticated satellites in orbit over East Asia. Any hostile launch of a Korean missile would be immediately noted and tracked. If the missile were to strike another nation's sovereign territory -- even if it contained no warhead -- it would, by international law and various treaties -- be considered an act of war.

The U.S. and its allies have enough nuclear and conventional weaponry to exterminate all life in North Korea, and the North Koreans obviously know this. Their trump card is not the weapons they possess, but their territory's proximity to the most densely populated part of South Korea. Any attack on N. Korea would result in tremendous losses in S. Korea, especially because North Korea's immense army is poised to launch an attack into the south.

In short, N. Korea is no direct threat to the U.S., but the U.S. is also not a realistic military threat to n. Korea.

The North Korean leaders scare me. I think that they truly pose a definite threat to our American lifestyle. What I don't understand is how did it get to this point? If we eagerly invaded Iraq because we thought they might be able to make nuclear weapons, why didn't we do something in North Korea? Maybe it was because we knew that the threat North Korea posed was real. I mean would you pick a fight with a giant or a worn out camel?

I don't think North Korea is too much of a threat to anyone. (At least I hope that is the case!) Despite all the rhetoric he has to know that South Korea, Japan and the USA keep has tin-pot country afloat.

If those three were to withdraw aid tomorrow half his population wouldn't make it thru next winter...unfortunately, he would still be fine...but surely that would really put the pressure on for some kind of coup de tat...

The great mystery would be whether the in-coming leader would be as bad as the out-going one !

A lot of people think the North Korean threat is a myth or a smoke screen. I think we should take North Korea very seriously not so much in what they will do, but what they have the ability to do now and in the future. If North Korea tried to bomb the U.S. believe me, we have the abilities to remedy that ... i think?

North Korea is not a threat because it may attack a country. They are not as stupid to do so, unless they made a secret agreement with China, but that’s not likely.
The real threat is that they are selling weapons (perhaps even nuclear) to terrorirsts.

If the USA keep ignoring and have no respect to other country's dignity, I believe that in the future sooner or later USA will be threated by all countries in the whole world. I think the "DOG BUSH" should realize that.

His deep need for attention is making that missle still sit on the launch pad, N Korea knows what would happen if they launch that towards the west coast and I am not sure they want counter action in this situation.

The very existence of a vast slave state is a threat to us, but I'm not worried about their missiles, we can shoot them down unless they launch a hundred at a time, which they can't.
