Doesn't anyone find this stuff a little strange? It's not a solid or a liquid, you can see through it, you can eat it, and you can mold it. Do we have any chemical majors out there that can clarify this? And why when you squish it between your teeth it become water and does not stay Jell-O. And why Bill Cosby? Shouldn’t it have been some fat guy, who moves like jell-o, IE: John Goodman?

I seriously will never eat Jell-O again. Thank you all for killing a found childhood memory...excuse my I have to call my therapist.;-( ................ They did the same thing to me; when I asked about pork roll.

The gelatin in Jell-O is what lets you transform it into all sorts of different shapes. What exactly is gelatin? Gelatin is just a processed version of a structural protein called collagen that is found in many animals, including humans. Collagen actually makes up almost a third of all the protein in the human body. It is a big, fibrous molecule that makes skin, bones, and tendons both strong and somewhat elastic. As you get older, your body makes less collagen, and individual collagen fibers become crosslinked with each other. You might experience this as stiff joints (from less flexible tendons) or wrinkles (from loss of skin elasticity).
The gelatin you eat in Jell-O comes from the collagen in cow or pig bones, hooves, and connective tissues. To make gelatin, manufacturers grind up these various parts and pre-treat them with either a strong acid or a strong base to break down cellular structures and release proteins like collagen. After pre-treatment, the resulting mixture is boiled. During this process, the large collagen protein ends up being partially broken down, and the resulting product is called gelatin. The gelatin is easily extracted because it forms a layer on the surface of the boiling mixture.

How is gelatin made?
"The production of the gelatin starts w/refinement of collagen-bearing tissues of ANY ANIMAL that has raised and slaughtered for food purposes. ....These materials are carefully soaked in alkalies and/or acids and washed in clean water to remove almost all non-collagen constituents, including meat. During this soaking period the collagen is converted to gelatin. The treated materials are then cooked gently in pure water to extract the gelatin, which is further refined by filtration....(Contrary to common belief, gelatin is not manufactured from horns or hooves or meat of animals, for these do not contain the necessary collagen).

AND it's made from ground up bones!
Or at least the mones that were not clean enough to make photo paper out of.
Dirty ground up bones.
YUMMY!
I like mine without any sort of fruit suspended in it. Just pure, unpure bones please.
