WELL IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE TRYING TO GROW IT. THERE ARE SEVERAL VARIETIES OF FESCUE THAT ARE SHADE TOLERANT. YOU NEED TO CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL GARDEN CENTER TO SEE WHICH ONES GROW BEST IN YOUR AREA. BUT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GROW GRASS UNDER A YARD THAT IS HEAVILY SHADED BY TREES, IT MAY BE TOUGH TO GET YOUR GRASS GROWING AT ALL. TREES TAKE A LOT OF NUTRIENTS AND WATER OUT OF THE GROUND. IT TAKES A VERY STRICT REGIMENT OF WATERING AND FERTILIZING WITH THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF PHOSPHORUS AND POTASSIUM TO GET THE ROOTS IN SHAPE. GOOD LUCK

I used a Penn-Kote brand for shade areas, and it worked pretty good. But, you have to just dampen the seeds at least twice a day until it starts to germinate.
