Let me help you.

If you want to be taken seriously as a professional dancer, you must have ballet. What your career shall be determines the other form of dance you take. If you are interested in musical theatre (dancing in Cats, Chicago, etc.) you need Jazz, and not hip hop. If you're interested in dancing for music videos, or cheersquads, you need the hip hop.

But I want to give you some advice, and I really hope you take it. It's long, but please read it and consider. I believe your dancing will improve dramatically.

Dancing is about the vocabulary of motion for the body. You have to approach your dancing from a perspective of sameness. Everything applies to everything. You step, you rise on your toes, you bend your knees, you transfer your weight, you turn... all of these apply to all of your dancing.

The key difference is STYLING.

Ballet is, yes, extremely important, but it is NOT THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY DANCE, I don't care WHAT people will tell you. That is a myth. Yes, ballet trains and tones your body, PREPARING IT for any other type of dance, but what does hip hop have to do with ballet? NOTHING! I assure you, when hip hop began, it wasn't because a bunch of ballerinas walked outside and started dancing in the street.

You MUST approach your dance from the philosophy of a vocabulary of movement, not from a 'ballet vocabulary' or a 'jazz vocabularly.' The moment you try to do something new, you immediately try to make it something it is not. When I started to learn ballroom, I was TERRIBLE because I assumed it was easy, and that if I just thought of my ballet training, it would help me. WRONG! It held me back because I wouldn't open my mind.

So, you may be taking fewer classes, but do you understand that your growth as a dancer will not be limited? You can expand upon your education if you use a blanket philosophy when learning. I wish somebody had taught me this years ago. I would have learned so much more.

That's hard but, know what is nearest to your heart. The other 2 may be ballet and hip hop. I chose ballet because you still have to maintain your skills, coordinated movements, muscle memory and flexibility. Hip hop because you should have something opposite of ballet to balance your movements (soft and hard). It's good bcoz you have already chosen rhythmic gymnastics that can help you with muscle strengthening. I like your program. And to help your mom with the finances by teaching part time dance instructor or choreographer. Hope I helped you God bless.

If I were you the classes that I would choose would be Gymnastics, ballet, and hip hop. You will want to keep ballet because it the bases of almost everything. I suggest hip hop because it is complete opposite of ballet. Hip hop keeps it fresh and fun.

omg your so like me. i do sooo much dancing it's not funny. I'm really in to it and every year my mum says i think we're going to cut down so i know how u feel. if i were you id go for the hip hop and ballet. just because jazz and hip hop are pretty similar except hip hops a bit funkier. in the end it's up to you but id go for the Rhythmic Gymnastics of course, ballet and hip hop. if your already doing the rhythmic gym then do the ballet then go for something a bit funkier.

Take jazz, gymnastics and ballet. Those three should help you to be well rounded for almost any other type of dance you may want to do in the future.

If Rythmc Gymnastics is a must...
I suggest to definately keep Ballet. The disciplines in ballet will help you in absolutely EVERY other type of dance. It will keep your body conditioned and flexible.

The other choice I would suggest is to keep HipHop. It is the fastest growing style of dance and this would keep your doors open in case your interests lie in the future of dance. The disciplines in Hip Hop (if there are any) will keep you honed in "free movement", which, although the opposite of ballet, will help you stay in touch with freeing yourself in dance.

Ballet definitely you can get a lot of jobs from that....jazz is cool to. I know what kind of situation your in. I can only do two things so i had to choose between ballet, hip hop, and ice skating. i want to be an ice skater so i choose ice skating and ballet because ballet helps with my skating. It all depends on what kind of dancer you want to be.

Absolutely keep ballet. It has the discipline and technique that you will need for any style of dance. I became a folk dancer (international dances such as Irish or Mexican), but having ballet technique was still crucial. After that, do what you love most.
