I visited both countries in 1976 and found the Chinese to be very friendly & curious about Americans. The Japanese were extremely polite & reserved. They had more personal freedom & control of their destiny than the Chinese at that time. Both countries are extremely crowded, so their privacy is internal (their thoughts are private), but they accept other people to be very close physically to them. I found Asian people to be very loveable & likeable. I cannot choose one over the other, as they are both terrific.

The answer: JAPAN
Japanese are more civilised and culivated.
China's human rights record is horrendous, eating of dogs and cats. Abusing unwanted baby girls in the hidden orphanages, and the list could go on and on.
