As of now its Ricky Ponting because he is in sublime form and scored a number of centuries in the past 2 years. Sachin Tendulkar is a equally a good player but he has been out of International Cricket for a long time now and i know he is playing extremely well for Lashings but his record in the current year and the last year because of his injuries has not been upto the mark

I think this is a very touf question to answer, because there are so many batsmen and perform everyday. But all in one and one in all; performance given by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in One day Cricket recent months. I think Dhoni is the best as a One day cricket.
Ricky Ponting is best batsman in Test cricket. Rahul Dravid, G Smith, Sachin, Haden, Laxman, Langer are also good, but all have very low run rate, so possibility of result is less for these batsman's batting.

Not only becoz he has the highest batting average in both ODIs and tests but also becoz he is a great captain he is dependant u can expect anything from him and abt sachin he is not good at all now becoz he is suffering from several injuries and it seems the end of his ....... but instead of that he is in the team i think he shouldnt be give youngsters a chance or else,,,,,,,,

If you take winning matches for your team or saving the innings it's Ricky Ponting. Sachin hasn't played that big roles on big occassions as much as Ricky. Ricky is aggressive even whe defending or leaving ball. His fielding adds to it.He'll never get tied down by bowling
