It isn't normal in general, but it *can* be normal for a particular baby. For instance, if he was sick or if there was some stress in the family, a baby can lose a few ounces. Teething alone isn't likely to cause weight loss, but if he is eating a lot of solids and he stopped eating much, that could cause it. Or, did he start solids during that week (or start eating a lot *more* solids)? Solids have fewer calories than human milk, so it's possible that he just wasn't getting enough milk.

However, 4 oz. in one week is pretty high. Were both weighings on the *same* scale? Was the scale serviced during that time? Any chance one of the weights was read wrong? Was the first weighing *with* clothes and the second one *without*? Any of these could explain an error in the weight.

If he has been gaining well up until now, it's probably nothing to worry about, but if you're concerned, please talk to a *doctor*. A nurse isn't an expert in the same way.

you maybe right, it could be teething problem but here are some tips to help keep Baby healthy and happy while teething, I found this no the net for you just hope it helps if not then take baby to hosipital it could be something serious.
to come in.

tell-tale signs of teething
Drooling, Ear pulling, Coughing due to excessive saliva Chin or facial rashes
Redness in gums
Wakefulness
Cheek rubbing
Irritability
Diarrhea
Low-grade fever
Loss of appetite
Difficulty breastfeeding

how to soothe a teething baby
Gently massage Baby’s gums with your fingers. You can also try an over-the-counter soothing gel, available at stores that carry baby products.
Give Baby something cold--not frozen--to chew on, like a refrigerated teething ring.
Don't use bottle as a pacifier. Any prolonged sucking of a liquid other than water may cause tooth decay.
Administer an infant dose of acetaminophen or ibuprofen at bedtime to help Baby sleep (consult pediatrician first). Never give a baby aspirin.

No, i have a seven month old son also and i know that my health visitor would have been concerned if he had lost 4 oz in one week. My son was putting on weight but not enough at one point and even that was enough for my health visitor to become concerned. He is fine now though and ended up having a growth spurt. I would take him to your GP or health visitor.

If your health visitor is happy then don't worry. Babies that teeth are generally put off meals and can be a little fussy about what they eat. My little one also lost a bit of weight when he was teething. Offer softer foods at main mealtimes, but let him relieve his sore gums on carrot sticks and cucumber sticks from the fridge. They are a healthy alternative to rusks. You can get teething biscuits that are organic with no artifical colours or sugars that my son also loved.

Take him regularly to the baby weight clinic if you live in the UK and address any concerns with them.

But as long as your health visitor seems ok, then don't worry.

Maybe it's the heat [it's hot where I am, I don't know about you] make sure he's getting enough fluids. Maybe he's growing and burning right though his calories. If he seems agitated I would go to the doctor and if he still is losing weight definitely go. But if he's healthy and happy he will probably start packing on the pounds again in the next couple of days.

i think its OK but i would keep an eye on him just to make sure. if he continues to drop weight talk to your doctor about it. its probably something to do with teething but just keep an eye on him.

maybe you could ask the health visitor or doctor why they think its normal so that you will be better able to tell whether it is from what they think it is or him losing weight through something else.

It depends if his not being active and his losing weight then get him to a doctor, my sister nearly lost her son because of that, and if he is being active then he should be fine but if i was you i would do a check up on him just to make sure things are ok.
