This is what I feed my dogs. My dogs have never been sick because of it, and it does not cause worms feeding them raw meat.
BARF is an acronym for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food and also stands for Bones And Raw Food. Other apt terms include evolutionary diet, natural diet and species appropriate diet. Every living animal requires a biologically appropriate diet. If you think about it, not one animal on earth is adapted by evolution to eat a cooked food diet. This means our BARF World diet is exactly what we should be feeding to our pets.
Are you ready to begin feeding your dog or cat a healthier diet? Are you hungry for valid and truly health promising information on pet nutrition? It may be that you wish to feed a new puppy or kitten. Perhaps you are thinking of switching your older dog to a wholesome raw diet. Perhaps you have persistent dry skin and allergy problems and are tired of high vet bills and constant medication. No matter what your canine or feline’s specific needs, the BARF Diet has a simple solution.
NEVER, EVER FEED COOKED BONES TO YOUR PET because cooked bones WILL splinter and cause severe internal damage, possibly even death.

When diamond dogfood was recalled for being toxic to your pets because it was contaminated. The dogfood KILLED my dads 7 year old sheltie.
A growing number of veterinarians state that processed pet food (kibbles and canned food) is the main cause of illness and premature death in the modern dog and cat. In December 1995, the British Journal of Small Animal Practice published a paper contending that processed pet food supresses the immune system and leads to liver, kidney, heart and other diseases. Dr. Kollath, of the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, headed a study done on animals. When young animals were fed cooked and processed foods they initially appeared to be healthy. However, as the animals reached adulthood, they began to age more quickly than normal and also developed chronic degenerative disease symptoms. A control group of animals raised on raw foods aged less quickly and were free of degenerative disease. Despite the appealing blandishments of pet food advertisements with their claims of providing "complete and balanced nutrition," if you're not exceedingly circumspect, you may end up feeding your pet chicken heads, road kills, spoiled or moldy grains, cancerous material cut from slaughterhouse animals, tissue high in hormone or pesticide residues, and even shredded Styrofoam packaging, metal ID tags and minced flea collars.

If this happened with all this petfood, what happens if it isn't caught and recalled. Several pets died on account of this dogfood.
Nestle Purina PetCare Co. of St. Louis voluntarily has recalled all of the pet-food products made at its plant in Venezuela after discovering toxins in the food, a spokesman said Friday. The problem is limited to Purina's La Encrucijada plant, its only facility in Venezuela.
If they have recalls on petfoods, then how do you know your pet is safe. It is not until pets die that it is found unsafe. I thought everything was suppose to be tested before it went to consumers. EVIDENTLY NOT.
By the way this diet is very contiversial you need to research yourself really to make the decision on what you want to do. Personally i will not feed my dogs anything else and they are extremely healthy.

An excellent diet if done correctly. I recommend the book 'Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats'. It explains the raw food diet and also gives recipes, first aid tips, etc.
It also gives the lowdown on pet food.....it's not pretty. And YES, it's much, much healthier! It's really a no-brainer....fresh, natural food vs. processed bottom-of-the-barrel food.

BARF is a terrible horrible diet. It is more complicated than just feeding the dog whatever. Most people cannot balance the diet properly. For all of the same reasons a human wouldn't eat raw food, that is why a dog shouldn't eat a raw food diet. Lots of bacteria and bad stuff. Not to mention bones are horrible for dogs.
Most vets hate the BARF diet and really disapprove of it.
