If you are talking about straight from the dealer, the 1998 Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR (sometimes called the CLR) sold for $1.25 Million in Europe. The prices for the new 2006 Bugatti Veyron are round about the same (1 Million euros) but since the dollar has devalued since then, its hard to say exactly which one was more expensive......nonetheless, the Veyron will be the most expensive car ever sold in the US and UK, at between $1.2-1.4 Million US and £850000 UK.
The most expensive car ever sold on record was in an auction.....the extremely rare (only 6-7 ever bulit) Bugatti Royale of 1931 sold for £7.1 million (about $12.5 Million) at a Sotheby's Auction in London.

New car it is the Bugatti Veyron. Retail for 1.2 million plus whatever taxes and assorted costs. Classic car I think it is the original Ferrari GTO. In the past in auctions they have gone for 10 to 14 million during the 80's Enzo is going soon lets drive up all the prices of his cars. I know about the Rolls-Royce, but since it would never come up for auction I don't think it qualifies
