I am not sure if its just americans but most want instant gradification. No matter how artificial it is. Most prefer fantacy/lies over Reality/truth.

The truth is one may feel an instant serge of "happiness" in
a certain time frame. But true Joy can not be bought, and those
who have found it wouldnt trade it for silver or gold.

I know some very sad , very wealthy people, who are on medication for depression because of the relentless pursuit of
more wealth. I know some joyfull wealthy people as well who
place more value on belief and family.

I also know some not so wealthy people who are full of joy because they know what really matters, money cant buy.
I also know some not so wealthy people that are very depressed because they cannot see the beauty in simple things.

Bottom line is we need money to survive and we have to work to live.............WE SHOULDNT LIVE TO WORK OR OBTAIN MORE AND MORE.

I am glad there is someone out there who has put thought into this subject.

MAY YOU BE FILLED WITH JOY.

They certainly are selling, but it's also how they go about it.

Have you ever really taken a close look at advertising? It's all about hijacking legitimate needs (security, love, shelter, happiness, sense of control, etc.) and telling us that whatever we have isn't good enough, creating a need that their products will conveniently fill.

And the advertising comes all wrapped up in tension, stress and fear-inducing copy -- dramatic television programs, evening news, etc. -- again, it's all about creating that need.

No wonder the divorce rate is so high.

Having an opinion from someone from outside the US, most people think US citizens are shallow, maybe that is why you try to buy happiness, not that this is my opinion, I like everyone as long as you dont try to pinch my dinner

Because we are taught from childhood that THAT is the American way.

"" we are bombarded with with media (commercials) that re-enforce the idea that material goods = happiness.

"" we have lost basic values and pursue trivial goals.

"" we are selfish and self-centered.

"" we enjoy instant gratification.

"" we can.
