Yes many philanthropist make friends very quickly and that is how they often leave gifts to. Talking to waitress all night then leaving her a $50,000 tip .

This is a pretty vague question, because the personality characteristics of philanthropists are not necessarily the same. You would do just as well to ask, "Do doctors like to have fujn? Do they like to meet new people? etc." Just because someone is a doctor (working in a profession where the goal is to help people) does not mean that all doctors have the same types of personal relationships with others.

Philanthropists have money, and they enjoy helping others with that money (at least on occasion). Why do they do it? I'm sure different philanthropists have different motives. Some do it just because it seems like the right thing to do. Some may do it because of the publicity it brings. Some may be seeking a tax writeoff. And some may think that it makes them a good person--so they will be rewarded in the next life.

With so many different reasons, I'm guessing that there are a wide variety of different personalities. So at least some of them like to have fun, at least some of them enjoy meeting new people, at least some of them know the true value of a dollar, and at least some of them are open-minded.
