The physiology of passing flatulence usually involves holding your breath to increase the pressure in your abdominal cavity. By doing so, you are able to use your abdominal muscles and pass your gas. When you hold your breath, it is impossible to talk as you need air to pass by your vocal cords to produce a sound.

This is not to say that there are not talented people out there who can do both at one time, but they are probably the minority.

Next time you have to fart while talking, just try to pass your gas without taking in and holding a deep breath. you might find it a bit more of a challenge.

Good Luck!
